In competitions where mixed formats are allowed, 'two photographs in total' means two prints, or two slides, or one print and one slide.

April - Annual Open Competition

This is for the Zebra Trophy (Prints) and Tiger Trophy (Slides) and is open subject. Members may enter up to 2 photographs in total in this competition. Winners will be decided by the judge, and medals will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each category.

May - The Animal-Free Competition

Pictures must not be of an animal subject, or include animals as the main or significant aspect of the picture. Landscapes, Seascapes or plants are acceptable, subject to their not contravening the restriction on the inclusion of animals. Members may enter 2 pictures in total. Winners (1st place for print and 1st place for slide) will be decided by judge.

September - Internal Competition at the AGM

This is for the Lemur (Prints) and Meerkat (Slides) challenge trophies. This is only open to pictures taken at Marwell in the preceding 12 months, and is NOT restricted to just pictures of Lemurs and Meerkats! Members may enter 2 pictures in total. Winners decided by judge from Marwell (or an external judge).

October - Endeavours Trophy

This competition is only for members who HAVE NOT WON A PREVIOUS COMPETITION at Marwell Photo Group. Members may enter 2 pictures in total (print and/or slide), open subject but to have been taken within the last 12 months, and NOT digitally manipulated (see detailed rules for definition). Entries must be submitted at least 1 month prior to the competition, unless otherwise announced, for consideration of a judging panel.

The Judging panel will comprise past competition winners as selected by the committee. The judging will be done behind closed doors, and the result announced at a subsequent members' evening where comments on the entries will be offered.

November - Hilda Robinson Memorial Plate and Tony Robinson Challenge Cup

This is open subject. Members may enter 2 photographs in total (print or slide).

Entries for this competition must not be digitally manipulated (see detailed rules for definition).

The plate is awarded by members' vote to the single best overall picture from those short listed by a Judge.

The cup is awarded by the judge to the single best landscape or seascape picture chosen from those entered in the Hilda Robinson Memorial Plate Competition.

December - League Finals

This is for the League Finals and is open subject (print or slide). Members may enter up to 2 photographs in total in this competition. Scores to be decided by the judge and will be added to previous league scores to give final league totals for 2008.

Shields will be awarded to the winners of each of the three leagues. Medals will be awarded for those finishing in second and third places. A tie breaker scoring system will operate if necessary.
