News Update ...
Visit to Hawk Conservancy Trust
Unlike the Skomer weekend, the storm did arrive at the Hawk Conservatory Trust. In between, we had some showers but also a number of good spells. Weather forecast over. Fifteen members of the Marwell Photographic Group attended the experience day. It started at 10am and finished at 5pm. Throughout the day we were given close access to about 10 birds, including the hooded vultures in flight. |
We joined the rest of the visitors for the 2pm flying display. This gave us the opportunity to try out our skills (or lack off) at following the various birds in flight. I think that most suffered overload when more that a dozen kites were in the air at the same time. A big thank you to Andy for organising the event, for Claire always patient in answering the technical questions and for Mike from the Hawk Conservancy Trust - our guide for the day. |

Visit to Skomer
Another successful weekend was enjoyed by Kath, Andy, Sarah, Ken, Val, Roy and ex member Sue at Skomer Island and the Pembrokeshire Falconry. Although rain had been forecast we enjoyed sunny but windy weather on Skomer Island. Due to a heavy storm being forecast we left the island early and enjoyed a stroll along the beach at Little Haven with ice creams. The storm never arrived. |
On Sunday we visited Picton Castle where we met Alex and Malachite the Harris hawk. Again we expected rain which never materialised. There were various positions which were good for photography, a lake, a floral tree stump and the castle, but we all left feeling very frustrated at our lack of birds in flight in focus and our admiration for Claire’s photographs grew even higher. Again we were well looked after by Jen at East Hook farm house and look forward to next years visit. |
